Gallippo's Photos

Many Miss Ohio local preliminary pageants have reputations for one thing or another; some are known for giving high amounts of scholarship dollars, or providing outstanding interview preparation, others are known for being held outdoors or having really rowdy directors! Even though I am only the third Miss Maumee Valley, this Scholarship Pageant has already picked up a great reputation. Everyone wants the complimentary Gallippo’s photo shoot that comes along with my title!

Headshots can be an extremely expensive aspect of pageant preparation. I am lucky that my first local title, Miss Lake Festival, has a local photographer who sponsors photos for all its contestants; I was able to use that headshot for a few years of competition and it’s still one of my moms favorites. Last year a good friend of mine who is persuing photography took some great shots that I used for my ad pages. This year I get to use the beautiful work above.

I highly recommend Gallippo’s. Kyle was a blast to work with, he is young and fun. I, of course, took way to many outfits with me to the shoot and Kyle was very helpful in identifying what would work best. I am pleased that the looks of the shots convey different aspects of my personality.

Miss Ohio has four different photo requirements; you can use one photo for all four, or mix it up. I would like to thank my select group of “advice givers” who I asked for impressions of the pictures and help deciding which to use for which requirement.

In the end, I chose to use the photo in which I’m wearing the red top for the Miss Ohio souvenir program book as well as the “judge’s book” which they receive before the pageant. The glamorous shot with the lime green silk dress is being used for the Miss Ohio and Miss America websites. The picture in which I’m wearing the black top will be on the “sign-in” board which contestants autograph at our Mansfield arrival event. It was a hard choice; thanks again to everyone who gave me input!

The above right photo was my idea and inspired by the vintage Miss America cover on the left. However, I am unsure which Miss America is being featured on it; if any pageant history buffs know who she is, please leave me a comment!

Very special thanks to Kyle and his wife at Gallippo's Photography (Wauseon, Ohio, phone 419. 335.7777)

  • Abby,

I think that is Jayne Jayroe, who was Miss Oklahoma before being crowned Miss America 1967.

  • Thanks Greg!

It's hard to tell for certain from her photos on the Miss America site because they're not side shots like the one in my post, but I think you might be right. (http://www.missamerica.org/our-miss-americas/1960/1967.asp)

    See you in Mansfield!

  • I completely agree about Gallippo's. They are awesome to work with and did an amazing job with my pictures for State and Internationals.
