Forensics: OFA Novice States

This weekend the novice members of BG’s Forensics team competed in the Ohio Forensics Association’s Novice State tournament, held at OSU. Team sweepstakes (Forensics speak for overall awards) were not given, as points from this tournament are added to the points accumulated at the Varsity tournament (which will be in two weeks) and then overall state awards will be given.

The catch is that novice teams are allowed to enter unlimited events, or numbers of “slots,” whereas only two competitors per school are allowed in each event at the varsity tournament. In recent years, a certain school that I’ll not name, would “flood” the novice tournament by forcing students in speech and drama classes, not only team members, to enter the tournament. As a result they would secure such a lead, no matter what happened at the varsity tournament, they would win. Hopefully that will not be the case this year.

Our novices did a nice job and hopefully secured us enough points that our varsity can add to it a victory in two weeks. Their individual awards are as follows:

Sarah Smith- 3rd place
Sarah Griffith- 6th place

Kent Truckor- 2nd place
